Our mental health professionals are available around the clock, 365 days a year, to respond to crisis situations for children, teens, and adults. Pawnee provides many services that may be employed to meet each individual’s needs, including crisis assessments via emergency rooms, jails, and within the community. The 11-bed Crisis Stabilization Unit provides voluntary treatment for those experiencing an acute mental health crisis. Individuals receive intensive therapeutic services in a warm, supportive environment and then are assisted with transitioning back into the community with continued care and support. Pawnee’s crisis department employs licensed therapists (Co-Responders) that work alongside our Riley County Law Enforcement Officers and community-based staff that work inside the Riley County Jail, Pottawatomie County Jail, and some who work with our transitional housing population.

At any time someone (of any age) experiencing a crisis can call or come in person to Pawnee’s Crisis Stabilization Unit at 1558 Hayes Drive, Suite A, Manhattan KS, 66502. At CSU you will ring a doorbell to be let into the building. A crisis staff member will meet with you to complete demographic paperwork and then you will meet with a therapist for a crisis assessment. There may also be times when a therapist is unavailable at the CSU. A trained crisis staff member will assist in triaging the situation and help determine the best needs of the client. Contact: 1-800-609-2002 or for non-emergency calls 785-587-4302.

**At times inpatient hospitalization may be the result of the triage or assessment. This may also require medical clearance from the local ER to access inpatient care per the requirements of the inpatient psychiatric facility.

For adults ages 18 and above, a referral may be made to our Crisis Stabilization Unit if that level of service is required.
